After graduating from the massage therapy program from Eastern College in 2014, I discovered I was able to study Acupuncture due to having extensive anatomy knowledge. I had left the security of paid vacation and a steady salary of the corporate world to finally pursue what I felt was a calling:
To help people feel better, everyday. To working with my hands and having more flexibility to be with my family.
My kids were quite young at the time and it was very challenging but I knew that hard work would eventually pay off and in life sometimes things we really want takes some time and effort.
It was a very scary risk for me at the time, but I was determined to make a career change. I had gained a lot of skills at my corporate jobs and really met a lot of great people and learned a lot, but I knew in my heart I really didn’t want to have to keep being there pretending to be someone I was not.
Within a few months of graduating from massage therapy school I enrolled with the College of Acupuncture and Therapeutics and started studying Acupuncture while practicing as a massage therapist. I received my final diploma in 2016, after which I went on to study advanced acupuncture including auricular ( ear ) acupuncture. I now have a designation in both modalities.
I have to admit I find acupuncture fascinating everyday and I am extremely passionate about its incredible healing application. It has really become my specialty.
I treat a lot of clients with anxiety and spirit disorders ( nightmares included) PTSD and stress. Which I really love as it can bring them so much peace and makes them feel so grounded. Even those that are nervous about acupuncture in the beginning, eventually become very comfortable.
I believe my background in a love of massage therapy has provided me with a platform to build a very gentle approach to acupuncture in a safe, warm and inviting atmosphere.
I started my massage therapy career in the KV valley with a couple of bigger clinics then decided in 2017 to start White Birch Healing and learned how to do all of my own billing and I am still learning how to be a business owner it seems.
There are some clients that just want massage therapy and some that see me for both acupuncture and massage therapy. It depends on the person and it’s a personal choice. Usually when people get to know me and come into my work space they will become curious about acupuncture also and will try it.
Usually after a few treatments people notice a difference and will seek it out on a regular basis.
I love massage therapy also but my real passion is acupuncture as it really seems to get to the root of the problem faster. Also I love being able to help with so many conditions that massage just cant do.
In my spare time, which I don’t seem to have much of, I enjoy being outside in nature. Swimming, kayaking, horses or hiking. Also I love planning vacation time to be with my family which is very important to me. So are my clients which I value and appreciate very much. Without them I wouldn’t be able to do what I love for a living every day.
I hope we have the opportunity to meet soon.
